with glittering eyes {saturday creations}

Normally when I make a card, I search my stash for the perfect stamps, and work from there.

I saw this print on pinterest, and really wanted to re-create it.  Chalkboard, fantastic quote, and a little out there.  I like it all.

I had the perfect glasses image, but the thought of building the sentiment with tiny alpha stamps was depressing.  So, I hand-wrote it, for a completely quirky (and I think charming) take on the print:

Not everyone is going to like this card.  My hubs gave it a “meh.”  But I give myself a thumbs up for stepping outside my comfort zone and creating a card using a grand total of 2 stamps.

What do you think?  Would you boldly put your own handwriting on a card?

Project Thursday {you’re the best}

Clare here today with a real quickie – it’s Holy Thursday, and a couple brothers are in from out of town, so I want to enjoy my time with them! 🙂

Like I mentioned on my release day post for the new Mom and Dad set, I made a similar card to the release day card to share with you today!

Gah! I just swoon everytime I see these glasses! These would also be perfect for Valentines Day and love cards. 😉

A few buttons finished off the wonky look…

That’s it for me today! I hope you have a blessed Easter!

Tuesday Ideas {for Dad}

Hello, it’s Kim here with my first design team post for Precious Remembrance. I am so glad you’re joining me! Today’s project is for all the dads out there and features the newest stamp set, Mom & Dad.

If you’re anything like me, creating a masculine card can be intimidating, right? Where do you start when you remove the feminine colors and paper doilies that come second nature to card making? Well, that’s what goes on in my head before starting any kind of masculine card.

To keep it appealing for the men folk, I started with a neutral color palette.

I selected papers with canvas and wood grain patterns. The natural elements assist in keeping a classic tone. For added texture, I ran my card through the sewing machine and added a simple zig-zag stitch down each side.

Next is my favorite part of creating a project, when all the personality and charm starts to take shape….stamping! I started with the small arrows to create a background using a soft, sandy beige ink. Next, I stamped “DAD” onto a separate piece of cardstock, cut it out, and inked the edges before adding it to my card. The “LOVE U” sentiment is one of my favorites in the Mom & Dad set. I just adore the sweet polka-dot heart, which I stamped separately and cut out to add a pop of color.

Now aren’t those glasses just the coolest? To give them that extra little pizzazz, I added a thin layer of Mod Podge Dimensional Magic. The shiny reflection really makes them come to life. Don’t you think?

Masculine cards? Not so intimidating after all!

Thanks so much for joining me for today’s Tuesday Ideas. I can’t wait until next time. Until then, why not browse around and see more creative projects from the design team. Have a great day!

Inspire Me Friday {Chalkboard Inspired}

Hello, everyone!  So good to be back with you on Fridays here!  More inspiration using the ‘Mom and Dad’ set today.  My first card with this set was 100% feminine, so I thought I would try a masculine card for today’s post, and thought it might be fun to try the ‘chalkboard technique’ with some of the sentiments…

I did some heat embossing with white powder on black card stock with a few of the sentiments.  Then I added the little dotted line element in white ink to break the sentiments up.  Finished it off with a few white pencil strokes and smudging with more white ink.  I framed my little chalkboard with a Basic Grey chipboard frame, which I personalized using some more white embossing and the word ‘DAD’.  (The space between the words on that sentiment, ‘MOM & DAD’, made it easy to ink up only the part I needed.)  I gave it a background of papers from the same collection as the frame (Fact & Fiction), and trimmed it out with a strip of burlap and a plain button…

I liked the texture and weight the burlap added to the bottom of the card while still keeping a masculine feel.  And I think that covers it!

Fun little set to play with, this is!  And versatile, too!!  Already looking forward to next Friday;)  Until then, I’ll be soaking up the inspiration from the rest of the designers, so stay tuned along with me!!

Create It Wednesday {fabric with heart}

There is something about fabric and their prints that can inspire, much like paper.  Today I wanted to share a quick tip on how to create your very own “printed” fabric using Precious remembrance stamps, ink and white fabric.   Begin by making sure your fabric is free from wrinkles.  Lay the fabric on a flat, hard surface.  Ink your stamp and press firmly onto fabric.  Continue until your area is covered as desired.

After stamping and cutting our the heart, I stitched it onto wool blend felt.  Stitched up the sides, added filling and a few flower embellishments.  All you need is some white fabric and you can create your own designs in a matter of minutes!

Design It Monday {Love U!}

Hi there! It’s Lisa here with my first Design It Monday post. Once again I would like to thank Dyane for bringing me on board with this talented team!

I’ve used the new Mom & Dad set for my card today, stacking the images to create a collage.  A mix of masculine and feminine elements were brought together for both mom and dad! I stacked the sentiments and polka dots onto my acrylic block, then removed the Love U.  Using black ink I stamped the focal image. Next I inked up the Love U adding it to the stamped collage.  This panel along with some black striped My Mind’s Eye paper was die cut using a Spellbinder’s postage die. I added this to my white card base that had been decorated with more My Mind’s Eye paper and a snippet from a paper doily. Another heart from the Love U sentiment was stamped,  fussy cut and popped up with foam tape. The pretty ribbon across the top is an adhesive ribbon by Martha Stewart. A sprinkling of gems for some anniversary pizazz and a fluttery butterfly brought this card to life!

Thanks so much for stopping by ~ have a splendid day!

you inspire me, mom.

I made one for dad the other day.  So, it was only fair to make one for mom too, for my first Saturday Creations post of the month.

I stamped the square heart image 4 times (from the new “mom & dad” set), and just eyeballed the distance between each…. such a lazy stamper.  It you want yours to look more perfect, just use a ruler 😉

The “mom” banner is a bit of a cheat, too.  I stamped the “mom” rectangle, cut 2 fish-tail-banner edges, and just tucked them underneath.   I propped up the middle of the mom-rectangle with a foam square, so it looks a bit like a wavy banner.

The extra “you inspire me” sentiment is from my all-time favorite Precious Remembrance set: Positive Thoughts.

Oh, and the glitter?  it’s shiny.  I flicked on some watered-down white glue and then sprinkled on the gold glitter.  (Tip:  I got my glitter on, and then stamped the “you inspire me” sentiment.  Because some glitter found it’s way right under the quad of hearts, I stamped it left-justified, instead of centered like I was originally planning. You gotta just roll with the punches.  I like it better this way.)

Thanks for stopping by!

ps, mommy – if you’re reading, just forget all about this card for a bit…. you’ll see it again in May 🙂

Hi! My name is Lisa Elton ~ former floral designer/instructor current stay at home wife. My husband and I are high school sweethearts who are blessed to be the parents to one very special son as well as a second mom and dad to our beautiful daughter-in-law. In my free time I enjoy long walks with my ridiculously adorable mini-schnauzer Max and adventurous photo taking journeys with my husband. I truly think I’m hopelessly addicted to polka dots, what not and all things related to card making! What a pleasure it’s been to meet other women in this blogging community that share my passion for this craft. Though we may never meet there are many who’s faces, words and works of art are very dear to me and I’m thankful to have them in my life. I’ts a blessing and a joy to be part of the Precious Remembrance.

I am a mom of two – a boy and a girl, and am engaged to a great man who also has two grown children of his own. Together, we share a happy home in on the coastline of beautiful California. I enjoy creating cards and other paper crafts as a hobby to share with my friends and family. They always tease me because I’ve been known to take my craft with me everywhere I go! You can find me crafting in our trailer during camping trips, blogging about my crafts during my lunch break, or reading craft magazines during road trips!

Most importantly, this hobby has allowed me to teach my children about sharing what they create with others and to find inspiration in their surroundings. Plus, it’s so fun to get our hands dirty in the craft supplies and make a mess together!

I am excited beyond belief to be joining the Precious Remembrance design team. The whimsical and carefree style of Dyane’s stamps just make me happy and I’ve been a fan since the first day!
